  1. I watch the films with my sons every couple of weeks and we just started reading the books together the other day and tonight I poured over the maps with my six year old so he could understand that originally Gandalf is in and out of the Shire for 12 years researching the One Ring after Bilbo’s 111st birthday and how the films don’t really acknowledge that because of the differences between written and filmed mediums and he LOVED IT.

Edit: I totally forgot, when I showed him on the map how the Elves were going West to the Grey Havens he brought up how sad it made him to see Sam let Frodo go and I CRIED while I explained that Frodo’s journey was complete and he deserved to live forever happy in Valinor and Sam had his own journey and a family just like I had him and his brother but one day they’d both be Men grown and have to leave me to go on their own journies and dammit I’m crying again while I write this because I love my sons more than anything and Lord of the Rings (books and films) both have become one of my main ways of processing emotion.
